Project Goal
To provide free primary healthcare services to people in vulnerable communities affected by the ongoing socio-political crisis in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon.
Project Objectives
Results
1. Provision of Healthcare services to Vulnerable Persons: In the month of October, community health workers in Ekondo Titi provided primary health care services to 126 people (57 males and 69 females) of the vulnerable population in Kitta. These services included treatment of simple malaria (25 people; 14 males and 11 females), simple diarrhea (19 people: 10 males and 9 females) and simple acute respiratory tract infection (14 people: 7 males and 7 females). For maternal care, 11 newly identified pregnant women were referred to health facilities for ANC and 1 birth was reported in the community.
2. Sensitisation for Health promotion: The CHWs mobilized and engaged over 300 members of host communities in health educative talks for health promotion during home visits and community gatherings. The most attended educational talk sessions were on nutrition (375 persons), A.R.I prevention(345 persons), Malaria and use of LLINS (335 persons) and,proper latrine use(325 persons).
3. Screening of Children <5 years for Severe Acute Malnutrition: The CHWs in Ekondo-titi screened 75 children (Figure 2) < 5 years were consulted for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) using a MUAC tape and 17 caregivers were sensitized on appropriate feeding for children <5 years.
