Education
Education

The core of this Club revolves around four main topics: Education, Arts, Sports and Human development, all of which combine to create a program aiming at forming better and successful human beings within a community with high levels of poverty and poor familiar support. These children are not homeless, but they are in need of support during after-school hours because most of the time one or both parents are absent because of long working hours, otherwise they are extremely vulnerable to such risks as delinquency, gang-related violence, drug use, prostitution, teen pregnancy and school dropout.

This last problem has been identified as one of the most important issues to fight, since studies such as the one conducted by Louis Harris & Associates in the United States came up with an overview where as many as 73% of Club members questioned identified academic tutoring as the most valuable benefit they obtained from their Club. In Mexico, a country where 6.5% of the population cannot read nor write (and an even higher percentage faces functional illiteracy), Education can be signaled as the utmost essential field on which to invest.

Our accomplishments

With over 800 enrolled members to this day, the Club is constantly researching about new programs that can help both members and staff achieve the Club´s mission of changing these kids´ lives, and some of the accomplishments so far are:

In Education
Living in a community where most citizens hardly attend past elementary school can be difficult, but aiding these kids with their school homework is not only a matter of bringing their grades up, we´re talking about helping young boys and girls become the men and women that will compete for better jobs tomorrow, and who will become active members of the society, thus increasing the potential growth of the local economy.

In Sports:
Having some of our members improving their self-esteem and physical condition practicing sports may be positive, but having them succeeding in local handball, basketball and soccer tournaments is even better!
We understand the role sports play in helping kids improve their health and sense of being part of a team, so Club de Niños y Niñas de Nuevo Leon can offer them a selection of basketball, volleyball, handball, Olympic an rhythmic gymnastics, martial arts, box and many more.

In Arts:
We have witnessed how even the most introverted teenager can express the widest range of emotions trough art. At the Club they can practice painting, dance, photography, music, arts and crafts and we can see the results of such cultural immersion in projects like “La Pintureria” or “Walls speak telling stories”, where they can paint not only on a canvas but on the walls of their very own streets, a project that has received recognition by the municipal government and CONARTE and CONACULTA arts councils.

In Human Development
Projects like “Cleaning your way” and “Care of water” help kids gain conscience of both their role as responsible member of the community and the positive impact that caring about the environment has on their lives, but a solid development program wouldn´t be complete without facing issues like drug use prevention and sexuality awareness for teens of ages between 12 and 16. Through workshops and personal counseling, the Club can help kids develop leadership skills, learn about moral values and above all finding and improving themselves as better human beings.
