Imagine this!
Dr. Lebbie is the only pediatric surgeon for a population of over 7 million people. His work is broad, ranging from burn contractures and inguinal hernias to spina bifida and hydrocephalus. Children have to travel from all over the country to see him, and he maintains a long waiting list for surgeries. There are so many families in this region who cannot afford the trip to see him, let alone the surgery. Through his continued partnership with BethanyKids, Dr. Lebbie is able to provide surgery free of charge to such families in need.

Great news!  Through October of this year, Dr. Lebbie performed 395 pediatric surgeries and treated 1,070 children in outpatient clinics in Sierra Leone.  The lives of these children have been forever changed because you care. Thank you

A life forever changed!

Anastacia is two years old and already she has seen more healthcare professionals than her bright eyes would suggest. She was born with a lump on her tailbone that would make it impossible for her to walk. Her first months of life were mostly spent travelling from hospital to hospital, her family in search of answers and praying for a cure.

“It has been very difficult for us as a family,” says Anastacia’s mother. “I am always asking myself why it happened to us and when God will take away all of this from our baby.”  After months of uncertainty followed by a misdiagnosis, Anastasia’s lump was eventually determined to be a benign sacrococcygeal teratoma – a rare tumour that arises early in fetal development. It was clear she needed surgery. To a family of fruit vendors, this would be a financial impossibility.

Thanks to generous financial support, however, all hope was not lost. Her tumour was removed and Anastacia was offered a chance at a normal childhood. She is recovering well and her family is overjoyed. “We thank you so much for your warm hearts,” says Anastacia’s father with a smile. “May God bless you immensely.”

Dr. Lebbie also thanks you for supporting his work in Sierra Leone!

"To all of my wonderful supporters - I'm greatly delighted to learn that you have given donations to support my work in caring for children with surgical disease in my home country of Sierra Leone.  I would like you to know that I sincerely appreciate every donation you have made as this will no doubt add value to the care I'm am giving to these needy children.  May God richly bless you."

Dr. Lebbie recently received commendation through a King’s College-London publication, which said the following:

“I can genuinely say that Dr Lebbie is brilliant at his job. To say Connaught Hospital is lucky to have him is a huge understatement – any paediatric hospital in the world would want him – but fortunately for Sierra Leone Dr Lebbie is totally focused on providing care to children here.”

We are very blessed to have Dr. Lebbie as our BethanyKids pediatric surgeon in Sierra Leone.  And because of your support, we are able to ensure that no child is turned away due to lack of funds. Thank you for making this possible!
