Hello STAND Family!
We hope you have had a fabulous summer and are settling into the colder weather. While it may be
getting colder here in the States, the STAND clinic action is heating up for sure. Our new team of
therapists (Sam and Nancy) , secretary, and clinic manager have ramped up the number of clients seen
in a day as well as the amount of community education within the Port de Paix community. Our team is
consistently seeing upwards are 30 adult clients a day ( over 300 patients in the last quarter!) and have
recently completed two separate community events educating the community on physical therapy,
wellness, and the importance of human connection. Each event drew over 100 participants.
Additionally, the team has performed community blood pressure and diabetes screenings and continues
to educate the community on hygiene, and skin care.
In the clinic, our therapy team continues to treat anyone who walks in the door. Thanks to all of your
support our new equipment has been a huge hit and has been very helpful with treatment plans and
getting our patients back on their feet faster. These days most of our patients have had a stroke or
orthopedic problems, although we have also treated many wounds this quarter. Additionally, the team
continues to educate each and every patient who walks in the door about blood pressure knowledge,
stroke education and diabetes management.
Not only is our team busy treating patients, but they have also taken on students for a 3-month rotation.
The students were amazing and brought a lot of enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Sam and Nacy
taught them about treatment planning for neurological injuries, orthopedic problems as well as instilled
in them the importance of educating our patients on hygiene, blood pressure management and stroke
prevention.
Out pediatric clinic is also bursting with new patients. The new location has allowed the team to take on
more patients and provide a stable place for family education and various clinics. Or pediatric nurses
continue to do home visits and have seen hundreds of families in the last quarter. The nutrition clinic
continues to thrive and the family education programs have grown by leaps and bounds ( the last
education session had over 120 families present!)
Thank you for all your continued support over the past few years. Despite everything happening with
COVID and politically in Haiti, our clinic continues to grow. We remain one of the few facilities that is
consistently open to treat patients. None of this would be possible without your support!
Mesi Empil (Thank you very much)
