Project Report | Nov 3, 2023
This time round, everyone wants to rear chicken

By James Malinga | Project Leader

Hi,

I hope this report finds you well, its been a while!

Thank you for the continuous support towards the vulnerable communities in central and eastern Uganda.

Already 50 families are enjoying the fruits of this programme both in Jinja and Mpigi, kids are able to continuously attend school as their guardians can now sustain their families, households can now have good diet as they are self reliant, women are able to save some money with the village savings groups in their communities, in short this programme is empowering local communities.

As opposed to the past months, this time all the visited households want to rear broiler chicken, they are targetting the festive season, the Christmas holiday here is a chicken holiday, everyone eats chicken, so the main goal of this project is to set up an income generating project to ensure the sustainability of the households in the longer term. The project is setting up poultry farms for these identified households with broiler chicken that will generate monthly income. We anticipate this project will create an income stream for the families and reduce their present financial dependency on unreliable sources. The project aims to distribute 100 broilers per household, in three weeks period, the chicken will be graded according to weight1.2Kgs to 2Kgs and according to customer preferences in the local market. These broilers will either be sold whole (alive) or as cutlets and would be supplied to hotels, restaurants, whole sellers, supermarkets and to the fast growing middle class individual consumers in our community.

You support a household, you would have supported their financial independence
