Dear Supporters,
The school year is well under way in the United States and has just recently started in Haiti. The students at Les Bons Samaritains are being greeted by a number of new computers thanks to your generosity. If you are able to further support this effort, GlobalGiving is having a matching campaign for ten days beginning at midnight on Tuesday, October 12th. During this campaign, GlobalGiving will match donations up to 50% until the matching fund is gone. Since there is a limited amount of matching funds available and over 2,500 projects competing for those funds, donations early on October 12th have the best opportunity to maximize giving.
In this new school year, Palmyra students have begun meeting to plan projects for our wiki collaborative with Les Bons Samaritains. At our first meeting, one of our student members excitedly suggested that we use the Young Artists For Haiti song, “Wavin’ Flag” as our theme song for this year. The song captures the pride and perseverance of the people of Haiti despite continued adversity. The refrain of the song resonates with me most.
When I get older, I will be stronger.
They’ll call me freedom just like a wavin’ flag.
When I have visited Les Bons Samaritains school in Haiti, I have always been impressed by the pride the students show in their country’s flag each morning as they line up to start their day. As the students get older and stronger in body and mind, that they will value the freedom that can be attained through education and help to sustain Haiti from within. With your help, those students can be as strong and as free as a wavin’ flag.
