Emergency Tents for Displaced Families

By AGIZO JOSUE | CORDINATOR

In the provinces of North and South Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, more than 21,000 internally displaced people are currently living in extremely precarious conditions. They have fled armed violence, leaving behind their homes, belongings, and often family members. To respond to this urgent crisis, our organization is implementing a project aimed at providing 3,000 emergency shelter tents to the most vulnerable families: single women, unaccompanied children, elderly people, and households exposed to the elements.

Humanitarian Problem

The massive displacements caused by ongoing conflict have led to overcrowded camps where families often sleep on the bare ground, without any protection from rain, cold, or illness.

  • Children are exposed to the weather and health risks.
  • Mothers struggle to protect their families in makeshift shelters.
  • The lack of adequate shelter increases disease transmission and deepens trauma.

Without rapid intervention, the vulnerability of these communities will continue to grow, putting even more lives at risk.

Project Objective

We plan to distribute 3,000 high-quality tents, each capable of sheltering up to seven people. These tents provide:

  • Reliable protection against rain and wind;
  • A safe space where families can sleep and reorganize;
  • A crucial first step toward restoring dignity, security, and stability.

With the involvement of our local teams, the distribution will be transparent, coordinated, and targeted, in collaboration with camp leaders and humanitarian partners.

Expected Impact

Providing these shelters will help to:

  • protect 21,000 people from climate-related and health risks;
  • reduce psychological stress and trauma;
  • enable families to regain a minimum level of stability to seek food, education, or work;
  • restore dignity, hope, and resilience within displaced communities.

Access to safe shelter is the first step toward rebuilding lives.

Project Budget

The total project budget is $95,500.
To date, $100 has already been raised, thanks to the generous support of early donors through our collaboration with GlobalGiving. This platform is a key partner that will help us reach the full funding goal.

(Budget presented without excessive detail, as requested.)

Project Progress

We are currently:

  • identifying the trainers and participants involved in the logistical implementation;
  • preparing distribution channels;
  • coordinating with camps and local humanitarian actors.

Operational activities are scheduled to begin in November 2025.

Call to Donors

We sincerely call on all individuals and institutions who care about meaningful humanitarian impact.
Every contribution, even modest, brings a family closer to a safe and dignified shelter.
Your support can truly save lives and restore hope to thousands of people who have lost everything.

Acknowledgements

We express our deep gratitude to those who have already contributed. Their generosity proves that together, we can bring a real, human response to this crisis.
With the support of GlobalGiving and the solidarity of our donors, we are confident that we will reach our goal and make this project a source of lasting change.
