As the height of hurricane season arrives, we are all feeling slightly vulnerable. Watching the devastation that was unleashed by Hurricane Dorian on the Bahamas has been horrific. And yet, we remain grateful for what we have and how much we have built since Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017.
Patient Assist VI's patient volume and number of prescriptions obtained have continued to rise. Our patients' ability to remain compliant with their medications, even during uncertain times, is of paramount importance. Stress, fatigue, and anxiety all play a role in a patient's overall well-being. We continue to commit our services to relieving the cost burden associated with obtaining medications. Our patients' backgrounds vary, but their desire to be healthy, happy, and contribute to their community is steadfast. Throughout 2019, we have successfully obtained over 600 prescriptions at no cost to our patients!
Patient testimonial: Ms. H lost her job as a housekeeper at a large hotel after Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Her job loss also resulted in a loss of health insurance benefits. Although she has been able to work odd jobs, her employer has not yet re-opened. Our work with Ms. H has allowed her to obtain her insulin at no cost from the manufacturer and working with our local pharmacy partner, she pays nothing for her oral medications, as well! Patient Assist will continue to work with Ms. H until she is able to return to work. Per Ms. H, "you all [Pt Assist] are a lifesaver! I didn't know how else to pay for my meds! This program has truly saved my life".
Without the generous donations from individuals and corporations, we could not continue to work with Ms. H and so many patients like her. We are truly grateful for every donation received!
