Introduction
At the Club de Niños y Niñas, our mission is to empower the next generation with skills and knowledge in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). This report highlights the impact of our STEAM programs in Technology and Trades.
Program Overview
Our STEAM programs in Technology and Trades aim to provide children and youth with hands-on learning experiences that foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. These programs include:
- Coding and Robotics Workshops: Teaching the fundamentals of coding and robotics through interactive projects.
- Digital Media and Design: Offering courses in graphic design, video production, and digital storytelling.
- Technical Skills Development: Providing training in practical trades such as electronics, carpentry, and metalwork.
Key Achievements
- Increased Participation: We saw a 30% increase in student enrollment in our STEAM programs, with over 500 students participating this year.
- Skill Development: 85% of participants demonstrated improved proficiency in coding, digital design, and technical trades, as measured by pre- and post-program assessments.
- Project Completion: Students completed over 100 individual and group projects, including building functional robots, creating short films, and designing sustainable models.
- Community Engagement: Hosted three community showcase events, attracting over 1,000 attendees, including families, local businesses, and educational institutions.
Impact Stories
- Maker Faire: A group of 6 children of 10 years old participated in the Maker Faire, they built a robot, which made them win first place in their category.
- Go Karts: A group of 12 to 17 year olds developed and assembled go karts, so that during the summer children between 6 and 11 years old can race cars. .
Challenges and Solutions
- Resource Limitations: We faced challenges in acquiring sufficient materials for our workshops. To address this, we partnered with local businesses and received in-kind donations, ensuring all students had access to the necessary tools and equipment.
- Remote Learning Adaptations: The pandemic required a shift to online learning for some periods. We developed virtual workshops and provided students with digital kits to continue their projects at home, maintaining engagement and learning continuity.
Future Goals
- Expand Reach: Increase the number of participants by 50% over the next year.
- Enhance Curriculum: Integrate advanced topics such as AI, renewable energy technologies, and advanced manufacturing techniques into our programs.
- Strengthen Partnerships: Build more collaborations with educational institutions to provide mentorship and internship opportunities for our students.
