"When I joined Nor Luyce I wasn’t that motivated and interested in the program. I had low self-esteem. However, thanks to my mentor, I became more interested in the program, self-confident, and sociable person. Now I love and accept myself the way I am.", said one of the mentees.
In July we finalized our 2019-2020 Mentoring Phase meetings thus registering 1276 hours of individual meetings. The meetings allowed the mentees to become self-confident, sociable, self-resilient, initiative and they could overcome their fears. All these changes are the results of the hard work of 22 mentors, whose efforts were appreciated through handing out to them certificates of completion. The mentor-mentee pair, who conducted a lot of meetings and were very initiative, received a book as a present for their best work.
As always, we not only support our mentees but we also empower our mentors. During summer we could provide our mentors with various workshops: Stress and how to overcome stress by life coach Melina Sardar, Art therapy by Rojeh Seriani, and public speaking skills and the work of the UN by Shahen Arapoghlian.
In summer while we were archiving all our documents, we could also recruit 25 new mentors. In September we could conduct pre-mentoring trainings that allowed them to learn more about the psychology of adolescents and of children living in foster care systems, they learned how to be a good communicator, provide empathy, and control their emotions. While conducting the workshops, we could also recruit 25 new mentees, who had an opportunity to meet each other in a group setting and set the base for their new friendship.
Along with the mentoring meetings, the rest of the mentees, 20 more girls, took part in life-skills, such as communication skills, time management, and teamwork. While the rest of the mentees, 25 more girls, had an opportunity to meet with a public figure: actress Yelena Borisenko, who shared her life journey, skills, and struggles throughout her professional life.
