Thanks to your help we can continue with the work we have started in the Gondar maternity ward. Now we want to tell you our latest achievements.
Continuing with our spirit of trying to multiply the impact by networking, we have signed an agreement with the Pondera Foundation and the University Hospital of Gondar. Pondera is an NGO with extensive training and experience in management, particularly in the health sector, and in development cooperation. Gondar´s Hospital is one of the biggest hospitals in Ethiopia, with 1000 beds currently, that in the worse moments of the Tigray war, grew to 1500 beds! As all the Tigray area Hospitals were destroyed by the Ethiopian army, the Gondar Hospital has to attend all the bordering area of Tigray and, furthermore, thousands of patients of the nearby Sudan prefer to be attended here too. So, we have a huge task ahead of us.
The hospital is spread over ground-floor wards, as if it were a village. Our next goal is to increase the maternal area, building new pavilions. The land is available and the construction has just begun. Our goal is sanitary, with direct impact on people´s lives, but it has also a long-term social impact over the whole community. Besides, as this is a University Hospital, the training of professionals who will practice throughout the country multiplies the effects achieved.
