Wildlife crime campaigns are back!

We were finally able to go back to the community and run our Wildlife Crime Campaigns!

What happened

Because of the strict lockdown that had been put in place back in March 2020, schools were closed and gathering of people was not allowed. Therefore, we had to put on hold our Community Outreach Program for a while.

However, as the lockdown eased and school resumed, we decided to talk to the principles of 2 schools, and got the approval to deliver a lesson as part of our Wildlife Crime Campaigns.

Wildlife Crime

The lesson is called "Introduction to wildlife crime" and the goal is to raise awareness about poaching and illegal trade of wildlife to children.

We aim at preventing them to be involved or participate in any illegal wildlife activities, by explaning the importance of animals in South Africa. This develops a sense of pride and responsibility towards animals.

Our 4 Environmental Monitors and 2 volunteers took part in this campaign, so that we could split the children into smaller groups. This allow us to organize engaging activities with the kids, and give them the opportunity to speak and ask questions about the topic.

Our impact

We went to two schools that we had never reached before, and this is great to see that they were so eager to welcome us!

On 16th September, we went to Mampshe Primary school , in Turkey 2, where we had 43 children in Grade 7, divided into 2 groups. Then two days later, we went to Maagaingwana Primary school in Yurkey 4, where we had 72 children divided into 4 small groups! This means that in two days we were able to impact 111 children!

We are very excited by these two days of campaigns, but it's just the beginning! We have more lessons ready for the children and we hope to be able to deliver them soon!
