The community outreach teaching program book!

By Michele Merrifield | Director

Camilla Brotons with her new book!
Camilla Brotons with her new book!

Dear Friend,

Most of us are still suffering from the pandemic, which hit all of us without exception. We thought we would have to close our doors within 3 months because we did not think that everybody would suddenly start to care so much for each other. The pandemic has been an incredible lesson of life driving us to all sorts of plans to survive.

In March 20 we had to stop our Outreach program, as we were not allowed to visit schools that were closed anyway. It was impossible to visit the communities, as gathering together was also not permitted. We had to comply with all the health protocols and be a good example of responsible citizens.

However, thanks to Camilla, a French volunteer who stayed with us during the pandemic, we now have a complete Community Outreach Teaching Program printed book!

Camilla has worked tirelessly to create this book, which includes an introduction to the outreach program, guidance for our volunteers to make a lesson interesting, and the entire eco club & the wildlife crime campaign lessons.

After 12 months of experience at DAKTARI, Camilla was the best person to share her experience; knowledge and tips on how to stimulate the children in learning while tackling the village’s environmental issues with the communities.

We are proud and have the pleasure to share the content of this beautiful book through the link below if you are interested to know more.

Although our visits in the villages are still on “pause” we are developing our internship program where we help unemployed youth to gain working experience, a cv, and assistance in finding a job.

Six youth as actually already in place, helping us with feeding animals, general maintenance, housekeeping, cooking, marketing and project management.

These wonderful people are either previous children we welcomed to DAKTARI years ago or know somebody who did, and have now reached adulthood. Time is going and it is so rewarding to know we made such an impact that they reached out to us, with trust, to fight the unemployment challenge.

This is thanks to YOU who helped us and made us strong enough along the way. It is also YOUR impact. Thank you.

I sincerely hope you are all healthy on your side and as positive as we all are here at DAKTARI.

Lots of love from DAKTARI and South Africa.
