Our outreach program has been full of excitement and growth these past months! In September, we were thrilled to welcome our new Outreach Manager, Carolina Herreros from Chile. With her bright spirit and positive energy, Carolina quickly became part of the DAKTARI family. She jumped straight into the work, connecting with the children and leading our outreach projects with passion and creativity.
A few weeks ago, we held one of our Wildlife Crime Campaigns at the school of Dhiputi, where 85 enthusiastic learners joined us for learning and discussion. The students were incredibly engaged, asking questions and sharing their thoughts on how to protect wildlife from poaching and illegal trade. Even the teachers expressed their gratitude, proudly telling us that the children are now spreading their new knowledge to their friends, classmates, and families. This is exactly why our outreach programs make such a lasting impact, education multiplies!
We’ve also been lucky to offer the children several unforgettable excursions, generously sponsored by local businesses around Hoedspruit. The kids visited the Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, where they learned about South Africa’s native species and the efforts to rescue and release injured animals. They also enjoyed a thrilling safari through the Makalali Game Reserve, where they spotted zebras, impalas, wildebeests, storks, and even two jackals! The excitement and wonder on their faces said it all, these experiences open young hearts and minds to the beauty of nature and the importance of protecting it.
