Winter is Coming

Water Experiment

Hello Friend!

It’s been an amazing month here at DAKTARI. Our outreach programme; the “Eco-Club” has been making progress in the community.

We’ve been working towards developing attitudes regarding the environment; one of our main projects - “Plant the Seed” initiatives. This is based on working with local children in the surrounding areas to educate them on conservation efforts and sustainable growth in the community by planting seeds together.

We also aim to provide education via science experiments to stimulate the local kids thirst for knowledge and fun. Today, 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio. In order to ensure everyone has access to safe water by 2030 the UN in 1993 stated that March 22nd would be World Water Day.

This past month at DAKTARI our Eco-Club has been educating and providing teaching equipment to demonstrate how clean water effects us all and how important it is to protect our environment especially clean, running water.

The kids together with the volunteers at the club were performing tests in water density and various other experiments. We were hoping to get the kids thinking about their impact on the environment and to start a dialogue over how to protect and improve the local areas to which they live.

And we don’t stop there!
…In April we’re planning bush walks with the kids and to potentially visit the local canyon to learn about the various wildlife, I’m sure they’ll be more experiments and conservation sprinkled in there too.

Here’s to another month at DAKTARI, thank you for supporting us!
