With your help, every year NYF’s Ankur Counseling and Training Center provides over 120 traumatized children, teens, and freed Kamlaris (previously indentured servants) with the counseling and support they need to turn a life of unimaginable hardship into one filled with hope and opportunity.
One of these children, "Agni", recently joined NYF’s very own Olgapuri(“Olga’s little oasis” – named after NYF founder Olga Murray), a beautiful, permanent home for some of the most vulnerable children in the world.
Agni has a dreadful background, having suffered more in her brief childhood than many of us do in a lifetime.
An intense child, Agni laughed a lot – a bit too exuberantly – but would suddenly veer into bouts of sobbing. She can be willful and stubborn, but the children at Olgapuri allowed her a lot of slack – even the youngest willingly surrendered the toys she coveted, and the oldest comforted her. A children’s counselor from NYF’s Ankur Counseling Center has spent several hours a week with her and will continue to for as long as she needs it.
In just six months, Agni had transformed into a different person. She’s far more tranquil, and has formed a special bond with her siblings and “Auntie” and “Uncle”, the house parents. She is adjusting well in one of the best pre-schools in Nepal and is far more affectionate and thoughtful of others.
Her future is bright thanks to supporters like you!
