Thank you for supporting the healing of a child

You may remember nine year old “Anjana” from a previous report. After her father left their family when Anjana was barely three, Anjana’s widowed mother patched together a livelihood to provide for her daughter...until finally in desperation she resorted to dangerous labor.

To protect her daughter from the high risk environment, she left Anjana with relatives. Impoverished themselves, their meager resources soon ran out. Fortunately they were able to turn to NYF.

Anjana was welcomed to Olgapuri with warmth and excitement, especially from the junior girls. House parents and counselors are providing ongoing nurturing support and helping her adjust.

Today, she goes to school smiling every day and recently passed third grade!

--

Many of the youth in our programs like Anjana have endured extremely difficult childhoods – utterly impoverished, having lost one or both parents, and/or stigmatized because of a disability. For 12 years, NYF’s Ankur Counseling Center has helped these youth heal from trauma and abandonment.

In 2018, approximately 275 youth received age-appropriate psychological counseling. Individual and group counseling topics included adjustment, ADHD, conduct disorder, rivalry, school absenteeism, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, teenage issues, parenting issues, and career related issues.

Therapeutic interventions included cognitive behavior therapy, behavior modification techniques, expressive art, and relaxation skills.

Your support truly transforms lives. Thank you!
