217 counseling sessions completed - Thanks to you!

By Nepal Youth Foundation | Project Leader

As you all may know, NYF’s Ankur Counseling Center is Nepal’s first counseling center for children. Our Ankur team provides psychological care for children recovering from trauma and those with mental illness, as well as providing workshops and resources on self-care, boundaries, stress management, and other important topics for young people.

Between October and December 2022, Ankur conducted 217 counseling sessions (individual and group sessions) for children and 38 house visits. Most of the clientele were children from NYF's Olgapuri Children's Village and other children's homes in Nepal, but it also included some of our scholarship students, vocational education trainees, women living with HIV&AIDS, and other community clients.

Our Ankur team used age-appropriate psychological interventions like sand-play therapy, expressive art technique, clay work, story-telling, cognitive behavioral techniques, and non-directive play therapies. The group sessions were specifically focused on expression of feelings, self-esteem, teamwork, and cooperation. The house visits involved psychological observation of the children, group work with the children, and meetings with house parents regarding any issues.

Nepal still has a long road ahead in improving access for mental health support for its children—but we are making excellent progress. That’s in part thanks to supporters like you, who have funded this program and cheered us on through it all. Thank you for your loving support of these children!
