Many of the children in NYF’s care have experienced intense trauma and loss. Through generous donations, ongoing love, and support from donors like you on GlobalGiving, Ankur Counseling Center can provide developmentally appropriate therapy and support for kids of all ages. Between July 2022 and June 2023, our remarkable group of childhood mental health specialists conducted 1401 individual therapy sessions and 279 group sessions. Over 500 children and youth were reached through these services.

As mentioned above, many children in our care receive individual therapy as well as group therapy sessions. Group therapy (displayed in the image above), helps children feel less alone in their struggles, and it gives them opportunities to share their own insights with their peers. This structured give-and-take, led by insightful therapists, helps kids turn their challenges into tools they can use to help others, which is incredibly empowering and healing.

Let’s take a deeper look at individual versus group therapy sessions.

Individual therapy sessions help children dealing with a broad range of challenges, including adjustment issues, depression, ADHD, OCD, trauma from sexual abuse, lack of motivation, and struggles related to adolescence. The team is well-practiced in proven methods for helping children.

  •  sand play therapy
  • cognitive behavioral therapy
  • mandala work
  • clay therapy
  • expressive art techniques
  • relaxation techniques
  • …and more!

Group therapy assesses the general psychological well-being of the children in NYF’s care and teaches skills like:

  • expressing & dealing with emotions
  • identifying strengths & weaknesses
  • self-awareness
  • adaptation to change
  • cooperation & team building
  • coping skills
  • family relationships

Good health is easy to take for granted, until it is lost. Thank you for helping our team continue the incredible work of expanding healthcare resources and awareness for Nepal’s children and young people!

Dhanyabad!
