To provide crucial counseling services to girls freed from the now abolished practice of child slavery known as Kamlari, Nepal Youth Foundation’s counseling staff have trained 70 former child slaves as peer counselors.
The volunteer peer counselors, who work in five districts in Western Nepal, lead 189 monthly support groups for 2,713 former Kamlari.
The members share their problems, issues, life stories, and discuss ways and strategies to deal with those issues.
The counselors from NYF’s Ankur Counseling and Training Center, who specialize in the treating children suffering from trauma, recently provided Life Skills training classes for the Peer Counselors and also monitored the progress of the support groups. During the monitoring visit, the Ankur counselors met the Peer Counselors and members of the support groups to check on their progress.
Thousands of emotionally-traumatized children and youth have benefitted from the psychosocial services of Ankur, a pioneer in psychological therapy for disadvantaged children in Nepal.
Thank you for helping us to carry out this important work.
Namaste!
