Expanding Opportunities: Youth & Health Awareness

By Azania Silva Gonzalez | Director of Investment for Social Transformation

The creation of a medical attention room at P.E.C.E.S. Alternative High School marks a significant step forward in our commitment to the holistic development of our students. This new facility not only ensures that young people receive health care in a safe and suitable environment but also opens doors to educational opportunities in the fields of wellness and nursing.

This project, inaugurated in September 2024, was born thanks to the initiative of dedicated young students from the Eagle Scout Service Project who recognized the need for a designated health area within our school. These young men, not only seek to achieve their personal goals, such as becoming a doctor, but also positively impact the P.E.C.E.S school community. In record time, we transformed the space, ensuring that our students have access to essential health services in an environment that promotes their physical and emotional well-being.

Beyond immediate medical care, this space has become an educational platform to inspire students to explore careers in the healthcare field. We have implemented a pilot program where 11th and 12th-grade students receive training in basic nursing skills and elderly care. During the August-December 2024 semester, six students successfully completed the course, sparking a genuine interest in pursuing further education in healthcare. For the January-May 2025 semester, we have expanded the initiative with eight more students, reflecting a growing enthusiasm for this field.

This project not only strengthens our mission of supporting young people in their academic and personal development but also creates real opportunities for their future. Having a dedicated nursing space within the school is an invaluable benefit to our educational community, fostering health, education, and social commitment among our students.

We remain committed to building an environment where well-being and education go hand in hand, ensuring that every student has the tools needed to transform their life and their community. This initiative reaffirms P.E.C.E.S.’ dedication to the integral growth of our students, providing them with essential skills for their future while strengthening our school’s infrastructure with critical services.

With the support of partners and donors like you, we continue to create meaningful impact, ensuring spaces that transform lives and open new opportunities for our youth and community. Thank you!
