Help 28,000 Indian Children Get Quality Education

This year, there are nearly 1082 Teach For India Fellows teaching close to 37,000 children across 7 cities in India. 

One among these Fellows is Kushal Dattani who teaches 2nd Grade in an under-resourced classroom in Ahmedabad. His classroom is an outstanding example of how students can help each other learn and be instrumental in each other's growth.

This is what Kushal has to say about his class:

"Grade 2 this year has been working really hard on building up their literacy and helping each other come forward. There is lot of joy and sense of achievement in them. We are capitalizing on outdoor conceptual learning in the local context too. They have started learning computers this year, and are really loving their new learning experience. We are combining literacy with computer to build their rigor. The challenge remains in the terms of number of computers to student ratio per class in our school. We have 7 seven computers and 35 kids in each class. So they don't get enough time to spend on the computer. We have to send them every day in a batch of 7. However they only get 30 mins in a week to sit on computer. Nevertheless, it does not stop them from learning."

This academic year also began with some great news. The William Drenttel Award for Excellence in Design was presented to Teach For India in  July for the design of the original musical Maya and its robust promotional campaign. The World Education Congress 2015 also commemorated Teach For India and our CEO, Shaheen Mistri for their immense contribution in reshaping India’s education landscape, at the National Awards for Excellence in CSR and Sustainability. Three accolades were awarded to Teach For India and Shaheen, respectively, for the following categories – Best NGO, Outstanding Leadership, and CSR Leadership.
