While engaged in this project, we identified a lack of easily accessible resources aimed at informing the general public about LGBTQ+ issues and providing guidelines for fostering an inclusive workplace. While existing materials targeted organizational leadership and HR personnel, there was a noticeable absence of user-friendly guidebooks for diverse colleagues spending significant time with LGBTQ+ people in the workplace.
Recognizing the potential of increasing public awareness and providing actionable steps for LGBTQ+ rights, we initiated the development, planning, and distribution of a guidebook for LGBTQ+ inclusive workplaces. This guidebook was created with input from members of the organization working in various workplaces. It features a self-assessment quiz, basic LGBTQ+ terminology, insights into the workplace experiences of LGBTQ+ workers in Korea, the advantages of an inclusive organizational culture for everyone, and etiquette for cultivating equal relationships with LGBTQ+ colleagues. With elements like true/false quizzes and cartoons to enhance accessibility for a diverse audience, the guidebook garnered positive feedback.
Since its release, we have actively promoted and distributed it to the general public, businesses, labor unions, and civil society organizations. Approximately 2,500 copies have been distributed to date, and we plan to continue these efforts throughout the year to reach an even broader audience.
