It’s a true privilege to share an update on Khanyisa!
We are so thankful that summer has arrived, and after much-needed rain, the bush is slowly transforming into a vibrant, green paradise. We are deeply grateful for the journey we’ve shared with you so far.
After months of severe drought, the rains have breathed new life into the bushveld, turning it into a flourishing haven. In this renewed landscape, our little miracle, Khanyisa, is thriving—growing both in size and spirit.
Khanyisa, our beloved albino elephant, has always been a unique presence in the herd. Her soft pink hue stands out like a gentle sunrise against the surrounding greenery, though she’s quick to cover herself in mud—her natural sunscreen and a unique fashion choice. Over the last few months, she has blossomed into a confident young elephant, stepping boldly into her role within the herd.
Recently, she’s even begun chasing buffalo away from the waterhole. Picture this: a tiny but fearless pachyderm trumpeting toward the massive buffalo with courage far exceeding her size. Don’t worry—her herd is always nearby, ready to step in if needed.
This newfound confidence marks another milestone in Khanyisa’s journey: she is gradually weaning off bottle feeds. The rains have brought an abundance of fresh greenery to the bush, which Khanyisa has eagerly embraced. This new vegetation, along with her favourite treat—sweet potatoes—provides her with all the nourishment she needs. While becoming more independent, she still enjoys comforting snacks, which we can all relate to!
On warm days, Khanyisa’s greatest joy is swimming. It’s heartwarming to watch her splash around with her sister, Timisa. Their bond is beautiful and strong, a perfect example of the deep family connections that exist in elephant herds. Whether it’s a playful splash fight or synchronized water fun, their antics are pure magic—and you can catch a glimpse of these moments on our YouTube channel.
Khanyisa remains deeply connected to her human family as she grows more independent. She shares a special bond with Adine and always comes running when called—especially when she hears her loving nickname, “Meisiekind” (little girl). These moments remind us that while Khanyisa is flourishing in her natural environment, she still carries the love and care that helped her survive.
Khanyisa’s journey is one of resilience and thriving against the odds. Her story continues to inspire us, and we feel privileged to witness her grow and shine as a pink star in the heart of the bushveld.
Thank you for your continued support.
