Did you know that at HERD, you’re not just a supporter—you’re family? We’re so grateful to have you walk this journey with us, and we can’t wait for you to see the latest chapter in Khanyisa’s story.
Winter is gone, and we are now heading into spring. We eagerly await our rainy season, which will make our reserve lush and green again.
In September, we celebrated the sixth birthday of this special albino elephant. With her unique, pink-tinted skin, gentle nature, and incredible resilience, Khanyisa has grown into a joyful member of the Jabulani herd.
As the days get warmer, there’s a gentle but unmistakable rivalry between sisters Timisa and Khanyisa. Like all siblings, they share moments of deep affection and playful jealousy. Khanyisa is rapidly gaining height and may soon be standing eye to eye with Timisa. For now, Timisa still holds the weight advantage, though not for long!
The two often bump into one another in spirited little tussles, testing their strength and affection in equal measure. And through it all, Kumbura remains a steady presence, always keeping a watchful eye on Khanyisa, ensuring her younger sister is cared for and comforted.
She and Timisa continue to enjoy their special morning food buckets together. These buckets are filled with sweet potatoes, apples, and game pellets, which they eagerly tuck into.
Together, Khanyisa and Timisa remind us that family is a beautiful mix of rivalry, care, and unconditional love.
As always, we are deeply grateful for your support.
Your commitment to Khanyisa and our conservation efforts makes a world of difference, not only to her, but to the entire herd.
From all of us at HERD, thank you for being such an essential part of our journey.
Yours in Conservation
