This year, our school preparedness project brought together children with disabilities and their non-disabled peers in an inclusive, supportive learning environment. For many children with disabilities, this was their first experience in an organized learning setting. Through daily activities, such as storytelling, early literacy and numeracy games, drawing, and cooperative play children developed essential school-readiness skills while building confidence and social connections. From the earliest sessions, the impact of inclusion was clear. Children quickly formed friendships, helped one another, and learned to communicate and collaborate across differences. Non-disabled peers acted as natural role models, while children with disabilities contributed creativity, resilience, and unique perspectives. Together, they created a classroom community where all child’s abilities were valued. Throughout this activity, we observed growth in communication, independence, attention, and early academic skills. Parents reported positive changes at home.
Your support made this transformation possible. Because of your partnership, children with disabilities are more prepared for school academically, socially, and emotionally and they will enter classrooms where they are already accepted by peers. You have helped create a foundation of kindness, cooperation, and respect for diversity that will benefit these children far beyond their first day of school.
