CULTURAL EDUCATION FOR ALL

By Dr.Ambika Kameshwar | Project Leader.

RASA- Theatre Arts Learning centres, attracts many volunteers and Interns every year.

The following is the experience shared by Mrs. Bhuvana Shivakumar who is now a volunteer with the Tiruvanmyur Learning Centre.

During my initial days at thiruvanmiyur I found S(one of the Young adults) in one of the corners of the class room, head bent down gazing at the floor. I always wondered if he would ever look at me and understand what I was saying.

My only instructions  to him were “ S, nimirndhu ukkaru, thalai nimirndhu ennai paaru “. S, please sit straight and lift up your headâ€

After spending time with him, it gives me great pleasure to see him constantly on his toes, tapping his fingers on his tummy like a bhagavathar (musician) with a mysterious look and smile on his face :)

I learnt from him to be positive and to enjoy the process of learning.

He often pats me to communicate his messages

At Rasa apart from dance, drama, music, and art and craft , games are also used to build life skills of a child/adult.

After the games class when I instructed him to put the ball into the basket-

This is the shy boy S in action!!

Every weekday from 10-3.00p.m this group meets in Tiruvanmyur to learn and imbibe the traditional indian Theatre forms which have been simplified using the Theatre Arts for Holistic Method.

This method which is one of its kind in India, serves to empower people in any walk of life and at RASA, we have been primarily catering to people with special needs.

Concentrate.
