KE Works with Underserved Children in Phnom Penh

By Sheena Thiruselvan | Development Associate

Children playing games and learning about wildlife
Children playing games and learning about wildlife

On July 20th, the Kouprey Express Mobile Education Unit (KE) was invited to teach at Aogaah Foundation in Phnom Penh. Aogaah, which is a non-formal education institution, works with severely disadvantaged children to give them a basic education. Located close to the railway tracks in Phnom Penh, the students of Aogaah do not attend conventional school, and organizations like Aogaah provide their only education. The visit was a huge success and over one hundred children attended this special Saturday session to learn about wildlife conservation!

During this visit, the children were broken up into groups and rotated through the presentation, artwork and games. Through these interactive activities, the children learned about the different animals that live in Cambodia and the environmental issues that endanger them. The children had so much fun playing the educational games that many of the neighbors came out to watch. At the end of the lesson, pens, books, posters and t-shirts were given to all the children and their teachers as well as our wildlife hotline number to report any sightings of illegal wildlife trading activity. Storybooks were also given to the group of students who could read. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with an inspiring organization like Aogaah, and hope to continue to partner with similar organizations.

The Kouprey Express continues to expand their efforts, raising awareness about wildlife conservation to underserved communities throughout Cambodia. Help increase their impact by making a donation today!
