Kalikasaran School Update

By Victoria Quigley | Corporate Engagement Manager

Hello donors!

The end is in sight! The plaster work has been completed on Kalikasaran School and we have moved into the final stages of priming and painting. The three toilet Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) structure as part of the Kalikasaran School has been completed with just the final landscaping touches to go before the 85 teachers and students of Kalikasaran School have access to safe drinking water and hygienic toilets. Landscaping continues for Kalikasaran playground to ensure a fun and safe environment for the students to play. Off the worksite, volunteers are receiving Nepali dance lessons from the local masons in preparation for performing at the school handover and weekly team dinners continue bringing staff, volunteers, masons and community members together!

The five amazing female masons who have undertaken our Female Mason Training Program for the duration of this build are due to take an exam at the end of April to be given the official certification. This will enable them to continue masonry past this project and into the future.

In addition to the work being completed on Kalikasaran School, there is Manakamana; a primary school in the same community as Jalpa, that had 2 blocks with 4 toilets before the earthquake. After the earthquake, 40 students together with 5 teachers were using two temporary direct pit toilet structures and had no access to running water, the closest water source was 700 m away. Even with two ongoing school builds, AHAH has made time to help this community and has built a three Pan WaSH structure and playground and installed a water filtration system.

Once our work wraps up we will be pausing operations for monsoon season but will pick back up again in September when the weather gets better. We are incredibly appreciative of all the support of our donors and hope that you continue to stay up to date with all of our programs across the world.

Thank you!
