Hello Donors!
Recovery work has started up again in Nepal, after a brief hiatus for the monsoon season. As we’ve reported, in 2017 our focus has been to get children back into safe classrooms. This work is incredibly important, considering over 8,000 schools were damaged or destroyed by the 2015 earthquakes, and children have been learning in substandard and even dangerous classrooms in many areas since then. Before our pause, we wrapped up our second year of resilient school reconstruction, completing 3 schools in the Haibung District, and one school in Sindhupalchok. We are excited to say these schools are now fully functional, giving 439 children a safe and stable place to learn!
Meanwhile, during monsoon season, our staff went on to finalize construction design, and acquire government approval for the reconstruction of two schools in the Sindhuli District. Today, we are pleased to say that All Hands and Hearts volunteers are back on the ground in Nepal, ready to turn safe, and comfortable classrooms into a reality for an additional 385 children. This October, field teams began work on Saraswati Basic School, Shree Ma Vi School, and two partial reconstruction projects on academic buildings at additional schools. We make it a priority that buildings we reconstruct are not only resilient, but also provide those that use them with highly beneficial features (including clean water access, hygiene stations, and bathrooms that suit their specific needs).
Beyond these specific projects, our team is also looking to identify other communities where children have still not been able to return to safe, comfortable classrooms since the earthquakes of 2015. As we progress this fall, we will continue to update you on our work in Nepal. As always, we are so thankful for the continued support of the Globalgiving community. You are the reason children and families around the world are able to acquire assistance after life-altering disasters.
From all of us at All Hands and Hearts—thank you!
