Hello Friend,
Back in December of 2020, our Operations team was working hard to determine how we could fulfill the commitment we made to repair two damaged schools tucked away in the rural municipality of Marin. The two schools have needed significant repairs since the earthquakes in 2015. With COVID-related travel restrictions still in place, we were simply unable to bring in a team of international staff and volunteers. In order to continue this work (and do so in a way that aligned with our COVID-19 program safety adaptations), we hired an expert team of Nepali staff and masons. The school teachers, School Management Committee members, and students all reacted very positively to the team’s arrival and the work restarting this past January.
Our incredible team of masons have been very productive over the past few months. In addition to working on the schools with record speed, they found creative ways to safely host training sessions (like Lightning & Thunderstorm Awareness) for community members. All major components at both Shree Thakureshwor and Shree Janakalyan schools are complete with some landscaping work and final finishing touches on paint, the playground and handwashing stations left to go. We expect to “handover” the schools in just a couple of weeks!
I look forward to showing you the finished schools soon. Thank you for following our progress!
