On January 28, 2026, five of the targeted youth that were enrolled at Ngihlomise Youth Skills Academy for vocational and life skills training completed an internship program that was aimed at equipping them with on the job training for increased access to employment or entrepreneurship opportunities. The internship program included the following courses:
In addition, agriculture and financial literacy modules were incorporated to provide alternative livelihood options through small-scale enterprises or subsistence farming for those unable to secure formal employment. In order to enhance their agriculture skills, the students will also trained in strawberry production and will be linked to local retail markets to sell their produce. This holistic approach aims to reduce recidivism by equipping youth offenders with practical, lawful income-generating skills. They will also be mentored on establishing businesses on the trades they were trained in and supported to register their businesses in order to access micro finance that is targeting the youth in Eswatini

Conclusion
Empowering disadvantaged youth offenders through vocational training, life skills education, and entrepreneurship support directly addresses barriers to formal employment. The project offers these young people a pathway to rehabilitation and economic independence, promoting social reintegration and reducing the likelihood of reoffending. Ultimately, the initiative contributes to community development, strengthens rehabilitation efforts, and supports Eswatini’s broader goals of inclusive and sustainable youth empowerment.
