Rebuild North Kivu - Hope in Action

By AGIZO JOSUE | CORDINATOR

For several months, the province of North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has been facing a dramatic humanitarian crisis.

Ongoing violence has forced more than 42,600 people to flee their homes in the territories of Masisi and Nyiragongo, following the capture of Goma by armed groups.

Today, these families are beginning to return, only to find devastated villages: destroyed infrastructure, closed schools, almost no access to clean water, and severe food insecurity.

In response to this urgent situation, our project “Rebuild North Kivu: Support 42,000 Displaced People” aims to accompany these communities in their return home by restoring essential services and helping them rebuild their lives with dignity.

2. Project Objectives

  • Rehabilitate essential infrastructure (schools, water points, and community spaces).
  • Ensure access to clean water through the installation of purification and distribution systems.
  • Strengthen food security by organizing food distributions and supporting agricultural recovery.
  • Guarantee safe and voluntary returns, respecting human rights and human dignity.
  • Train and empower local communities to actively participate in sustainable reconstruction efforts.

3. Approach and Implementation

The project follows a participatory and community-based approach, implemented in close collaboration with local partners, community leaders, and humanitarian organizations active in the field.

Main stages of implementation:

  1. Identification Phase – ongoing selection of trainers and beneficiaries.
  2. Launch Phase – officially beginning in November 2025, with the start of community rebuilding activities.
  3. Monitoring and Evaluation – continuous assessment to ensure safe returns and fair resource distribution among the most vulnerable families.

4. Current Progress

Thanks to our partnership with GlobalGiving, we have already raised an initial $100 in support.
This first contribution, though modest, marks the beginning of a global wave of solidarity, and we are confident that with ongoing engagement from our partners and donors, we will reach our final goal.

We are currently in the process of identifying trainers and learners, who will participate in the first phase of activities once the project officially begins.

5. Overall Budget

The total estimated budget for full implementation of the project is USD 725,000.
This amount will cover:

  • Reconstruction of key community infrastructure,
  • Installation of water systems,
  • Food and logistical support,
  • Training programs and ongoing monitoring.

With the strong support of GlobalGiving, we are confident that we will reach this target through collective effort and generosity.

6. Call for Solidarity

We make a heartfelt appeal to all donors, institutions, and partners who care about humanitarian causes:
your support can transform lives, bring hope to thousands of families, and help rebuild peace in North Kivu.

Every contribution—no matter how small—brings us closer to restoring dignity and stability to men, women, and children who simply long to live in safety.

7. Acknowledgements

We express our deep gratitude to all those who have already contributed to this project.
Your generosity and trust strengthen our determination and give hope to thousands who have lost everything.

Together, we can rebuild North Kivu and offer a better future to more than 42,000 displaced people.
