Rebuild North Kivu: Support 42000 displaced people

Project Context

North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo is facing a severe humanitarian crisis. Recent violence has displaced over 42,600 people, mainly to Masisi and Nyiragongo. These families are returning to devastated areas where infrastructure is destroyed, schools are closed, and access to clean water is limited. Meanwhile, 60% of displaced people remain in Goma, facing food insecurity and lack of essential services.

Our project, “Rebuilding North Kivu: Supporting 42,000 Displaced People”, aims to address these urgent needs and ensure a safe, voluntary, and dignified return for vulnerable communities.

Project Objectives

1. Restore essential infrastructure in affected areas (Masisi and Nyiragongo).
2. Provide access to safe drinking water through purification systems.
3. Ensure food security by distributing relief supplies and supporting local agricultural activities.
4. Rebuild education by reconstructing schools and identifying trainers and learners.
5. Monitor and ensure that the return of displaced persons is safe, voluntary, and dignified.
6. Promote stability and community reconciliation in the region.

Approach and Methodology

We adopt a multidimensional approach in collaboration with GlobalGiving and local partners. Key steps include:

• Identifying priority infrastructure to rebuild.
• Installing water access and purification systems.
• Targeted food distribution to vulnerable families.
• Selecting and training educators to support children’s learning.
• Continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure safe and sustainable returns.

Budget and Funding

The total project budget is $725,000. Thanks to our collaboration with GlobalGiving, we have already raised $100 and continue to mobilize funds to reach our goal. Funding will cover essential infrastructure, water systems, food distribution, and educational programs.

Timeline

• Preparation phase: identifying trainers and learners – ongoing.
• Project launch on the ground: November 2025.
• Continuous monitoring and evaluation to ensure impact and sustainability.

Expected Impact

This project will directly improve the lives of over 42,000 displaced people. By rebuilding infrastructure, providing clean water and education, and ensuring food security, we help families recover from the trauma of violence and displacement.
