Building begins this week on renovations to an existing building that will soon house the newest birth center and clinic to be rebuilt from the ashes of Super Typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda. This typhoon destroyed much of Leyte and Samar islands, killing thousands and making tens of thousands of people homeless. It also left the survivors with no standing birth centers.
Into this void, a midwife named Lorina has stepped. She asked Mercy In Action to help her fund a new birth center. We worked with Lorina in our disaster response tents in 2013-2014, so we were glad to say yes. Now, we are raising funds for this rebuilding. And, we have already sent a truckload of birthing center supplies, medical equipment, and furnishings for the clinic when it is constructed. Now we are just waiting for the workers to be ready to begin.
Thank you for your support of this project to get another quality birth center up and running for the pregnant women in Samar island. It is an investment in the future of the Philippines; caring for the health of mothers and babies is a wise investment, as well as a good thing to do.
God bless you!
