Girls having fun in Kibera
Girls having fun in Kibera

Lindy (Not her real name) has down syndrome, she is 15 years old and living with her single mother in Kibera Slums. Her Mama Judy discovered when Lindy was 8 years old that someone had been abusing her sexually when she got an infection, the revelation was shocking but she was not able to know who because Lindy could not tell her.

This little girl became so sexually active that she would openly ask men for sex and men took advantage of her. Her mother tried and confined her at a rescue centre for 2 years, but they let her go because the centre was closing down due to the height of covid 19. Lindy had to come back to her mother. In the sprawling slums of Kibera where there are so many people and very congested, the mother became very worried about her daughter being abused sexually again.

Polycom decided to create a space for Lindy to come in every day and just make herself busy, drawing and playing. This went on even after the schools opened. Polycom through this project decided to hire a special teacher for Lindy and so far she is happy and has improved alot in her speech and several actions. She has finally diverted her energy into dancing, Polycom's aim is to teach this girl who does not understand school work well but is doing well with handcraft and loves music to learn to play piano and just rebuild her life.

It is not just normal girls that can be teenage mothers but also disadvantaged girls. Lindy enjoys playing with babies when the teenage mums are having their sessions.

Support us to get Lindy a piano and materials for her handcraft..
