Redefining Community Development in Puerto Rico

On December 16, PECES held its final community outreach activity of the semester, an initiative rooted in love, solidarity, and the true spirit of the holiday season.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the Punta Santiago community, PECES continues its tradition of creating joyful experiences for elderly individuals living alone and families with limited resources, especially during Christmas, when companionship and hope are most meaningful.

This year, as in past years, we brought traditional Puerto Rican parrandas to 12 homes throughout the community. Accompanied by the joyful rhythms of pleneros, güiros, and beloved Christmas songs, members of the PECES staff stepped away from their daily responsibilities to personally deliver music, warmth, and hope. These visits were filled with laughter, emotion, and shared joy moments that reminded us all of the power of human connection.

The impact extended beyond the homes we visited. Neighbors joined the parrandas, creating a ripple effect of celebration and unity throughout the community. The excitement and happiness were palpable in every corner and every household, making the experience truly unforgettable.

In addition to music and companionship, 12 families received food baskets and hygiene and cleaning supplies, directly impacting 23 individuals. These essential items provided relief and comfort during the holiday season.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, PECES is able to turn compassion into action. Activities like this reaffirm our mission to restore hope, dignity, and joy, especially among our elderly community members. Your support makes it possible to create meaningful moments that remind our community that they are seen, valued, and never alone.
