Hello UBECI’s friends,
Thank you for your continued support of UBECI. We hope you have all had a wonderful summer!
Here is what we’ve been up to:
With your help we have been able to reduce the working hours of 694 children in May and June through participation in educational and recreational activities. As part of our Play, Do, Learn program the children have been engaging in activities related to gender equality and preventing discrimination and other negative behaviours.
Attendance May-June:
Boys: 290
Girls: 404
Total: 694
Enrolled in school: 543
Not enrolled in school: 151
SUMMER PROGRAM
We had lots of fun with our summer program in July and August. The summer program focused on sports and general health as well as theatre and art to encourage the children’s creativity and confidence. 944 children attended the summer program. The summer program is especially important as the children are not at school therefore, they have longer work hours in the markets.
July-August:
Boys: 415
Girls: 529
Total: 944
We also held special activities for mother’s day, children’s day, and an emotions workshop to promote emotional health and wellbeing.

Mother’s Day: 217
Children’s Day: 245
Emotions workshop: 204
To ensure the activities we facilitate are supporting normal childhood development at the end of each Bimester we test the children's progress in 3 areas of development; motor skills, cognitive development, and social skills. In the May-June and July-August Bimesters the results improved across the board!
May-June:
Motor development : 35.6%
Cognitive development : 35.5%
Socio-Affective development : 35.7%
July-August:
Motor development : 37.3%
Cognitive development : 40.7%
Socio-Affective development : 37.3%
Here is what 15 year old Jacqueline has to say about UBECI:
