Get Redressed Month underway!

By Hannah Lane | Director of Partnerships

Dear donors,

AN ESTIMATED 170 TONNES OF CLOTHING ARE THROWN AWAY EVERY DAY IN HONG KONG.

This is equivalent to around 1.2 million T-shirts entering our landfills daily.

We’re buying more clothes, wearing them less often, and throwing them away faster. From wasting precious resources to emitting greenhouse gases globally, our poor choices continue to have a detrimental effect on our planet. But through our actions as individuals and as a society, we can make a positive impact.

Get Redressed Month started in 2018 with 80 participating companies and schools, and we are honoured to have grown to engage over 120 participating organisations in 2022 including offices, schools, retailers, and properties.

The aim of this annual campaign is to raise awareness in Hong Kong about the impact of our clothing choices as well as how to reduce clothing waste.

We invite you to join us this month! The 2022 campaign encourages more mindful clothing consumption. The message LOVE WHAT’S BEEN LOVED reminds us to love what we already have in our closets by wearing them longer, taking good care of them, and repairing as needed. When we have enjoyed our own clothing for as long as we can, we can give our unwanted clothes a new life through sharing, selling, or participating in the annual Get Redressed Month clothing drive.

We are working with companies, schools to provide hundreds of collection boxes across the city. Hong Kongers can drop off their unwanted clothing at any of the locations, and Redress will collect them at the end of the month. Check here for public collection boxes both during Get Redressed Month and year-round.

We look forward to sharing with you the results of this programme and thank you for contributing to our critical work to cut waste out of fashion!

Best wishes,

Hannah
