In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as part of climate solutions, community farming was introduced to communities on Mantanani Island.
A plot of fertile land, around 500m2, was secured for the project and seeds were given to the locals. Some of the vegetables and fruits planted are corns, cassavas, chilies, kai lan, long beans, kangkung, mulberries and bananas. In the future, other varieties of vegetables and fruits will be added. Locals are also encouraged to do small scale farming on land around their houses and seeds were also given to them.
It is hope that Mantanani Island can produce enough vegetables and fruits for local consumptions and has surplus to supply to resorts and restaurants on the island, stopping the need to import from mainland.
Thank you very much once again for your donation and making this effort possible. From 19th to 23rd of April under the Climate Action campaign, for every donation that we receive there will be a 100% matching donation from GlobalGiving. We will be very grateful if you can donate to us during that period. Thank you very much.
