Summary

This project will plant 5,000 fruit trees across 7 villages in Ankpa, Kogi State, restoring degraded forests and combating climate change. By revitalizing soil health, capturing carbon, and protecting biodiversity, we will create a healthier environment for future generations. Families will also benefit from nutritious fruits, improving food security and generating sustainable income.

Challenge

Ankpa is caught in a vicious cycle of deforestation and land degradation. Years of unchecked tree loss have stripped the land of its natural defenses, leaving soils barren, biodiversity dwindling, and communities vulnerable. Poor crop yields deepen food insecurity, while the loss of fruit-bearing trees eliminates a critical source of nutrition and income. At the same time, the environmental toll grows-carbon levels rise, ecosystems weaken, and climate risks like floods and droughts intensify.

Solution

This project will plant 5,000 fruit trees across 7 villages, restoring forests and improving soil quality. The trees will capture carbon, protect biodiversity, and stabilize the local climate. Providing fruit trees gives families nutritious food and income from surplus fruit sales. Community training on tree care ensures long-term survival and growth of the trees, creating lasting benefits. Without this intervention, both people and nature will pay an even steeper price.

Long-Term Impact

This project will transform Ankpa by planting 5,000 fruit trees across 7 villages, restoring ecosystems while fighting climate change. The trees will regenerate soils, prevent erosion, and create wildlife habitats while absorbing carbon. Families will gain sustainable food sources and income from fruit harvests, reducing poverty. Community training ensures long-term tree care, creating lasting environmental and economic benefits. Within 5yrs, we'll see healthy ecosystems/improved food security.
