Dear friends,

In a remote village in the hills Bichhya, of  Bajura District, twin sisters Dharma and Karma ( name changed) were born with visual impairments. Despite their parents' love and dedication, poverty and a lack of accessible services left the family uncertain about the girls' future. Now they are 11 years old.

The family struggled to access schools and health facilities for children with disabilities. With no support system, they feared their daughters would be left behind.

“We always dreamed of our girls going to school. But we didn’t know how to help them,” shared their mother.

PHASE Nepal, in collaboration with a specialized institution, helped enroll Dharma and Karma in an inclusive education program. Support included:

  • Braille learning materials
  • Orientation and mobility training
  • Inclusive extracurricular activities

To empower the whole family, support was provided:

  • Provision of 4 goats for a goat farming livelihood initiative
  • Regular health checkups and emotional counseling
  • Monthly follow-ups and mentoring by PHASE health staff

“For the first time, we feel like someone sees our children, not just their disability,” said their father.

Dharma and Karma now dream of becoming teachers for blind children like themselves and teaching Braille to other visually impaired children. Their journey shows how targeted support can transform lives.

With your continued support, PHASE Nepal can help more children like Dharma and Karma access education and a brighter future. Together, we can build a more inclusive world.

Thank you,

PHASE Nepal Team.
