On 1st December 2025, Yamuna (name changed), a 44 year mother from Natharpu village in Mugu district visited PHASE clinic with some complaints on her health condition, loss of appetite etc. Upon exaamination, our health staff recorded her vital signs, all nerly normal, however she was loosing her weight, not maintaining personal hygiene and was keeping herself islolated, not easily speaking to others.
Our health staff, trained on mental health and psychosocial counseling, diagnosed possible early stage depression. Proper treatment would be possible in higher center only. Therefore, the PHASE health workers referred her to higher centere. However her husband was not willing to take her to a higher center due to lack of his fiancial capacity. PHASE staff provided proper counseling to her husband and advised PHASE would support Nrs. 15,000 (USD 110) to cover the treatment and travel expenses at higher center which is at Surkhet, far away from their village. Finally her husband agreed to take her to Surkhet. Later Surkhet hospital referred her to a hospital in Kathmandu. Her condition is getting better and in a few weeks she will be able to go back to her normal life.
This is just an example of support we provided to needy people in remote locations with proper and timely diagnosis, counseling and treatment helping prevention/reduction of complications or making life easier for everyone with emphasis to persons with disabilities.
With financial support from PHASE Austria and various other individual donors like you, we have just started a 12 month long economic empowerment project in Lalitpur, Nepal to support person with disabilities. This project will provide skill training to the person with disabilities and or thier family members to run a microbusiness for additional income, provide assistive devices based on individual needs and involve in 10 day long independent living training to selected persons with severe and profound disabilities. We will sahre our stories from the projcts in the next reports.
We appreciate your continued support.
