Technical Progress but Slow Negotiations

By Natasha Wilson | Senior Technical Lead

We have some incredibly encouraging technical news to share regarding the water supply for the Maasai village and school, along with an update on our move toward installation.

1. A Proven Source: Successful Pump Testing

Before increasing our capacity, it was vital to ensure the borehole could handle the demand. We recently completed a professional pump test on the existing borehole, and the results are excellent:

  • The Verdict: The data shows we can significantly increase both pump power and flow rate without the risk of overpumping or damaging the aquifer.

  • What this means: We have the green light to provide more water to more people, more quickly, once the new system is fully live.

2. Equipment On-Site & Strategic Negotiations

We have successfully procured the main solar panels and inverter equipment! These are the "brains and heart" of the new system.

While the hardware is ready, we are currently in a crucial phase of negotiations with local community leaders and government officials. We are co-designing the operational framework to ensure that once the system is installed, it is managed fairly, maintained locally, and remains sustainable for years to come. Getting this "social infrastructure" right is just as important as the physical pipes.

3. The Final Piece of the Puzzle

We are so close to the finish line, but we still have a "shopping list" of essential components to complete the assembly. We still need to purchase:

  • Heavy-duty cabling to connect the solar array to the pump.

  • Mounting hardware and smaller electrical materials to ensure a safe, weather-proof installation.

  • Power house and mounting structures for solar panels and inverters

How You Can Help Us Cross the Finish Line

Because we already have the most expensive equipment (the inverter and panels), every dollar donated now goes much further toward these final, critical components.

Our Perspective: We have the water, we have the power, and we have the plan. Now, we just need the final materials to hook it all together.

Thank you for staying with us as we navigate these final steps to bring reliable water to the students and families of the village.
