Relief for Congo's children during ebola outbreak

The ongoing Ebola threat across the Democratic Republic of the Congo poses a grave risk to street-connected youth. While the outbreak remains largely contained in the north-eastern provinces, infection rates have slowed down in recent weeks, though the virus is still actively present. Living without permanent shelter or basic sanitation, homeless children have no natural shield against contagious diseases, making them exceptionally vulnerable.

At Kimbilio, we have acted quickly across our day centre and transit homes to provide a safe, protective sanctuary. We have installed handwashing stations, distributed soap, provided practical health education, and ensured clean shelter and nutritious meals remain accessible so that youth can stay off the streets and out of high-transmission areas.

Promising progress is being made internationally, with trial vaccines currently being developed in the UK and hoped to be ready by the end of the year. In the meantime, maintaining swift preventative measures and essential hygiene supplies on the ground requires continuous funding.
