Since February 2024, Malawi has faced a severe drought caused by a prolonged dry spell. This has led to widespread crop failure, food scarcity, and malnutrition across 5 districts in the southern region. Many families are struggling to access basic necessities including food, clean water, and healthcare.
TARGET BENEFICIARIES
Rural households in the 5 affected districts, with a focus on:
- Children under 5
- Elderly persons
-Female-headed households
Smallholder farmers
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
1. Emergency Relief: Provide immediate food assistance to vulnerable families.
2. Nutrition Intervention* Deliver supplementary feeding and nutrition screening.
3. Water & Health: Improve access to clean water and basic health services.
4. Recovery Support: Distribute drought-resistant seeds and inputs for the next season.
PROGRESS RESULTS
- >Reduced food insecurity and malnutrition rates in target districts

- >Strengthened community resilience to future climate shock
