Since February 2024, Malawi has been experiencing a severe drought, affecting several districts including Blantyre, Chikwawa, Nsanje, Mwanza, and Mneno. The prolonged dry spell has led to crop failure, food scarcity, and malnutrition, leaving many families struggling to access basic necessities.
In desperation, some children are resorting to consuming wild roots and unknown plants, risking their health and well-being. The situation is dire, and immediate intervention is needed
We propose a project to provide emergency relief to drought-affected communities, focusing on food assistance, nutrition support, and livelihood recovery. Your contribution will help us provide: - Food aid to vulnerable families - Nutrition support for children and pregnant/lactating women - Seeds and agricultural inputs for sustainable recovery
The Drought Relief and Recovery project aims to address immediate needs while building resilience for long-term sustainability. Key outcomes include: - Improved Food Security: Families will access food aid and agricultural inputs, ensuring nutrition and income stability. - Enhanced Livelihoods: Support for sustainable agriculture and alternative livelihoods will reduce dependence on emergency aid. - Community Empowerment: Training in climate-resilient practices and resource management
