An Story of Marginal Farmer ''Bhola''

By Team | RSKS India

Dear Patron !

Covid-19 snatched away livelihood of many people due to the lockdown and the spreading of the virus. Many people survived after it through their saving but still there are many people who didn’t had much savings. These people are the people living in villages who are dependent on daily working, and the money earned through it are gone all at the daily expenses of the family. These people are the farmers, daily wages labour, painters, etc people. In this context, few months earlier RSKS India provided better livelihood opportunity to 50 farmers of 5 villages in the form of seeds and fertilizers support. Through this many farmers got an opportunity to recover from the pandemic and earn for their livelihood.

One of the successful stories of this program is of a farmer named Bhola (Name Changed).

Bhola is 53 years old, he is a marginal farmer and lives in a remote village. He has his wife, and 4 children in his family and the only earning person in the family is himself. During the covid-19 pandemic, problems struck on him and his family as everything was closed and the people who had bigger lands on which he worked earlier didn’t called him as they though it could spread the covid-19 diseases. Bhola didn’t had enough land on which he could do farming at big level so he used to only plant the essential plants like of vegetables in his house. These vegetables were the best support to him and his family during the second wave of the pandemic. He had some savings earlier through which the household expenses were met but after that he had to ask his relatives to support him in surviving the pandemic.

After some time, RSKS India went to his village and selected farmers like him who need livelihood support. seeds, manures, fertilizers etc were distributed under the Coivd-19 Livelihood support program of RSKS India. This was done after RSKS team visited the house of Bhola and then his whole story was heard. After the distribution work, the RSKS team members went to do the follow up of all the farmers like him and then the end line survey was done of these farmers.

Bhola was able to earn more than 35,000 INR through the livelihood support of RSKS India. He was able to sell his crops at a premium rate as it was high in the markets at that time. Due to advanced seeds he had much crops then the normal seeds which also resulted in this huge profit to him. Through this profit he was able to pay back to his relatives from which he asked help during pandemic and the left money was used to buy again the advanced seeds so that this could be continued and would be a perfect livelihood for him. He and his family thanked RSKS India and all the donors through which this program was possible.

Once again thank you so much for your valuable Support.

Many Regards
