To help raise awareness about our fundraising campaign for a replacement rescue vessel, we created and started to implement a creative awareness-raising strategy.
In November 2024 we started an art collective to turn the retired rescue vessel, MoChara, and all our archive footage and materials into an art exhibition, which would help us create awareness around the issue, raise funds through donations and attract attention from media and from people unaware of our organisation and its work.
12th Juy 2025 we opened the first exhibition at Lost Farm Festival for contemporary art in Denmark. We are now working on getting the exhibition on tour in the rest of Denmark and then to UK and Ireland. At the exhibition we direct people to our GlobalGiving project via QR code and direct engagements.
Running concurrently, is our Surrounded By Sea competition, currently in Northern Ireland. People submit a photograph of the sea to enter. It costs 10 GBP. The proceeds from the fees go towards a new rescue vessel and helps us raise awareness of the fundraising efforts. We are rolling a strand out in Denmark in August 2025.
We are currently preparing a talk about the work of Refugee Rescue which is programmed at the West Belfast Festival, 2nd August 2025. This will also help raise awareness and direct supporters to the fundraising campaign.
All our awareness efforts have generated interest among UK and Danish media.
The campaign is only now gaining traction and we continue till the end of the year.
