We did it-30 hectares secured for Nature!

By Branden Barber | CEO

When we first visited 110 Cape Tribulation Road, there was a collective sense of ‘Could we?’

After all, this is a massive lowland property that has so much potential for returning to a wild state in a key riparian area—leveraging the resources of the new Rainforest Rescue nursery that you, our supporters, have made possible.

Turns out, the answer is ‘together we can, and we just did’.

Thank you…a sincere and heartfelt thank you. 110 Cape Tribulation Road is now part of Rainforest Rescue.

Your generosity has not only protected 30 hectares of land in the Lower Daintree, but it provides the opportunity to also restore 25 of those hectares into a biodiverse, thriving natural environment.

Projects like this are what our natural world needs more and more of.

Our protection portfolio now stands at 233 hectares, which includes several Wildlife Corridors and many Nature Refuges, areas that are protected forever.

Thanks to your support, Rainforest Rescue continues to grow. If we are to endeavour in providing Nature with the room and resources it needs to survive, to thrive and to turn back the clock on the damage done by human activity, a place like 110 Cape Tribulation Road isexactlywhat is needed.

Supporting the connectivity of remnant areas of lowland rainforest in this region is our motivation—they need to be contiguous for genetic diversity and movement of wildlife. This is a special area of transitionary habitat that benefits both resident and migratory species, many of which are found nowhere else on the planet, like the Spectacled Flying Fox.

If this fragile bioregion is to experience more climatic events like the flooding in 2024, it will need resilient land that can absorb and slow down the swell of floodwaters. Biodiversity loss and climate change are the persistent threats that we must confront as a conservation community.

But 110 Cape Tribulation Road’s strategic location provides hope.

Thanks to your support and those like you, we now have not just the land to make a profound difference, but the working capacity and the trees too. Your Native Rainforest Nursery is still growing bigger and bigger, with tens of thousands of young, healthy trees ready for planting.

As ever, while we take this time to say thank you and to express deep gratitude for your continued commitment to the safeguarding and stewardship of the natural world, we both know that there’s so much more to be done.

For the rainforests.
